About our Physicians
Dr. Christian
Beythien, MD, is staff cardiologist and internal
specialist at the XCell-Center. He completed his medical studies at
the University of Eppendorf/Hamburg Hospital in his home town
of Hamburg, Germany. Dr. Beythien is a specialist in
internal medicine and "special internal intensive
medicine". Dr. Beythien's focuses on interventional
cardiology - including PTCA and stent implantation, angiology, and
internal intensive care.
Most recently, Dr. Beythien served as Chief of the Medizinische Klinik I at the Evangelische Hospital Holzminden. In 2004, he published "Effect of design and surface coating of coronary stents on the activation of thrombocytes and plasmatic coagulation: Quantification in the in vitro modell" as a member of the medical faculty at the University of Rostock, Germany. In the course of his scientific work, Dr. Beythien is an active, expert reviewer for a number of medical journals such as "Deutsche Medizinische Wochenzeitschrift", "Thrombosis and Haemostasis" and "Journal of Endovascular Therapy". Furthermore, he holds lectures and seminars for student education programs and the advanced medical training of colleagues.
Dr. Dirk Happich,
MD, is a Transfusion and Laboratory Medicine Physician at
the XCell-Center. Dr. Happich has operated a joint
laboratory-medicine practice in Leverkusen and Cologne for many
years. He previously worked at the University of Bonn's Institute
for Experimental Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, The Institute
for Laboratory and Transfusion Medicine at Ruhr University, and
Bochum's NRW Heart and Diabetes Centre.
Prof. Nils
Haberland is a neurosurgeon and an XCell-Center consultant
physician. Prior to September 2007, Prof. Dr. Haberland was Chief
Physician of the Neurosurgery and Neurotraumatology Department at
the Berufsgenossenschaftliche Unfallsklinik in Frankfurt am Main.
Since October 2007, he has assumed an internationally recognized
position as the Chairman of the International Spine Center Cairo
(ISCC) at the Egypt Air Hospital in Cairo.
Dr. Michael John, MD,
is the staff orthopedist at the XCell-Center. Dr. John served
his residency at the Behandlungszentrum Vogtareuth where he
specialized in endoprosthetics and spine surgery and at the
Children's Hospital in Aschau, focusing there on
pediatric orthopaedics. After completing his residency, Dr. John
worked for over 10 years as Assistant Medical Director at the Alpha
Klinik in Munich with a focus on minimally invasive spine surgery.
His interest in adult stem cells was sparked by his dissertation
about a new, endoscopic method for treating degenerative disc
disease. The outcome showed that adult stem cells out of vertebral
bone marrow were able to build new, functional nuclei and relieve

Dr. Aladin Elsisi, MD, is
Chief of Anesthesiology and Assistant Medical Director at the
XCell-Center. He completed his medical studies at the medical
faculty of the University of Cairo/Egypt. He served his
residency at the university clinic in Cairo and as medical officer
in the pediatric department at the military hospital in Cairo . Dr.
Elsisi holds a German medical license and is a specialist
in anesthesiology. After his work as visiting physician at the
university hospital in Heidelberg/Germany under the supervision of
Prof. K. van Ackern, Dr. Elsisi practiced as an
anesthesiology specialist at the Markröningen/Germany
clinic, focusing on spinal injuries and SCI. Just prior
to his employment at the XCell-Center, Dr. Elsisi was head of
the surgical ambulance at the Eduardus hospital in Cologne. He has
been involved in stem cell therapy since 2007.
Dr. Uta Kristein Tamaschke, MD, is
staff neurosurgeon at the XCell-Center. She has practiced in
the field of pediatric neurosurgery for the past 20 years,
focusing on congenital and acquired development disorders of
the central nervous system (CNS). Dr. Tamaschke has, for the
past 10 years, developed minimally invasive neuroendoscopic
surgery technique. She has surgically treated 500 children via
advanced endoscopy. In addition, Dr. Tamaschke has employed
her expertise in the field of neurosurgery in cooperation with
humanitarian aid organizations worldwide since 2001.
Dr. Paul Kraus, MD, is radiologist at the XCell-Center. He completed his medical studies at the university of Freiburg/Breisgau and then became a specialist in radiology at the Erlangen/Nürnberg University hospital. For twenty-one years, he ran a leading imaging center for radiological diagnostics in Amberg, Northern Bavaria. Since 1995, Dr. Kraus has chaired several radiological quality assurance committees in Bavaria. In 2002, he spearheaded mammography screening in Northern Bavaria, and continues to serve as an expert consultant throughout the region.
