How It Happened

On December 28, 2006, Damla experienced a cramp in her head and felt to the ground.  When she tried to stand up again, she had no feelings in her left arm and leg.  She fainted and an epileptic seizure followed. Damla stayed in the hospital for 5.5 months.  In 2007 her physicians told her that only limited improvements were to be expected and that she had to learn to accept her life as it was.  Damla started to look for alternative therapies and was informed by her family in 2009 about the XCell-Center's treatment options.

She decided to go to Germany for stem cell treatment.

Treatment with Adult Stem Cells, January 13, 2010

During consultation with prof. Haberland, Damla was diagnosed with:

  • Incomplete stroke right side of the MCA
  • Epilepsy
  • Organic Brain Syndrome

Prof. Haberland suggested stem cell treatment via minimum invasive surgery directly into her brain.

On January 13, 2010, Damla was treated at the XCell-Center in Dusseldorf, Germany.  She tolerated the procedures very well, experiencing only limited side-effects.  After surgery she felt tired and had a light headache. All side effects were temporary and gone after 4 to 5 days.

Results

After only 4 days, Damla's spasticity decreased.  Her hands were more flexible and less stiff.  After a one-week recovery, Damla went back to school again; fully recovered from the surgery.

After a few months she noticed more improvements.  Damla could use her elbow better, and had improved fine motor functions.  Presently, she walks better; using her feet entirely and not just her toes.

Damla was advised to start additional NCS therapy. NCS (Neuro Cell Stimulation Therapy) is a specialized rehabilitation program, offered by Dr. Berndsen, who together with XCell-Center specialists, designed this post-treatment therapy to compliment stem cell therapy.

Conclusion

One day prior to the treatment, Damla's walk and coordination was analyzed on the treadmill in the XCell-Center's physical and cognitive assessment center. Those findings were used as a baseline in order to measure improvements after therapy.

5 Months after treatment, Damla visited the assessment center again and her base-line measurements were compared with current findings. The following was concluded:

-       More balance while walking. Her walking improved by decreasing her stride distance from 14 cm (before treatment) to 11 cm. after treatment. (See Before Video Below)

-       Before the treatment, her maximum walking speed was 0.5 km/h. After 5 months, her walking speed increased to 2 km/h.  The second test showed that her balance had improved significantly.  (See After Video Below)

Additional improvements include:

-       More feeling in the left side of the body
-       Improved movement in left foot
-       Decreased spasticity in left leg
-       Left hand is significantly stronger and easier to use
-       Stomach muscle strength increa=sed

Damla will return for a second stem cell therapy which is planned in August 2010.

Treatment Evaluation Process

In order to be evaluated for treatment, patients must complete an online medical history form. Once you've completed the online medical history and submitted it, a patient relations consultant will contact you. He or she will assist you with the rest of the evaluation process. Upon treatment approval, your consultant will also assist you with treatment scheduling and trip preparation.
